Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on Saturday, Dec. 2, for the 2017 Candlelight Service,
an annual tradition of the Atlanta Chapter of The Compassionate Friends.

The program begins at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church of Atlanta,
and will be followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.

Special Guest Speaker - Jennifer Perez

Jennifer A. Perez is a native of Miami, Florida.  She possesses over eight years of experience in the corporate and legal fields where she has worked as a Paralegal, Client Relations Lead, Office Manager and Operations Manager.  She graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor in Business Administration, double major in International Business and Management, and is also a Florida Registered Paralegal.  Outside of her professional life, she is very involved in the community and has over 13 years of experience in the non-profit sector.  She co-manages (in conjunction with her mother) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Anthony’s Light Foundation, where she promotes Carbon Monoxide awareness, campaigns for changes in legislation, and awards scholarships to high school and college students.  She is also very active within The Compassionate Friends (TCF) where she speaks on a panel at the annual National Conferences and was the 2017 National Conference Closing Keynote Speaker.

Jennifer is the youngest of three siblings.  She joined the TCF Miami Chapter following the loss of her oldest brother, Anthony J. Perez, on November 14, 2004 from accidental Carbon Monoxide poisoning that leaked from the vehicle’s exhaust while sitting idly in an open parking lot.  He was 25 at the time; she was 15.  “I never fully grasped the possibilities offered by TCF until I attended my first national conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2011; approximately 7 years following my brother’s death.  Meeting countless bereaved siblings from around the country and actually being able to laugh with them, cry with them, or sit in a mutually-understood silence with them – that was when I realized I truly was not alone; that was when I realized I could go on.  TCF offers a safe place where I no longer need to bury my story behind busy work and masked emotions.  On the contrary, TCF allows me to share my story and embrace my journey; but most importantly, help others along theirs.  I can only hope that I return even half of the impact that TCF has profoundly made on my life.  It is an organization that I wish I never had to be a part of, but could not imagine living without.”
