"One Small Star"

When I need to feel you near me
I stand in this quiet place
The silver light of countless stars
Falling on my face

Though they all burn so brightly
Somehow it comforts me to know
That some who burn the brightest
Died an eternity ago

But your light still shines
It's one small star to guide me
And to help me hold back the dark
Your light still shinning in my heart

I'm learning how to live without you
And I never thought I could
And even how to smile again
I never thought I would

And to cherish your heart's memories
That can bring you back to life
Some caress me gently
And some cut me like a knife

But your light still shines
It's one small star to guide me
And it helps me hold back the dark
Your light still shining in my heart

And your soul will be out there somewhere
Beyond the infinity of time
I guess you found some answers now
I'll have to wait for mine

Till my life joins with yours one day
We'll shine through timeless space
And one day far upon a distant stage
Upon some strangers face

But your light still shines
It's one small star to guide me
And it helps me hold back the dark
Your light still shining in my heart
Your light still shining in my heart

Orion's Belt

Billy loves stargazing so we bought a giant telescope for him one Christmas while we were still living in Nairobi, Kenya. He set it up in the back garden in the Kitisuru house and searched for sun spots for us to see. I also remember we would drive out to the coffee plantation near the International School late in the night to see the Comet Hayakutake. I remember it was pitch black, a cloudless and moonless night. The comet was a sight to see with its tail spanning 30 degrees of the sky. I was terrified that we were going to be mugged that night, but the only people who spoke to us that night asked if we were OK or needed help.

Because of Billy's love of the constellation we decided to link the middle star on Orion's Belt to Billy's memory. So on some starry night look up into the sky and locate Orion's Belt and the middle star that's shinning brightly is our son, your grandchild, your brother, your nephew, your cousin, and friend shinning down on all of us and perhaps saying to us he is doing fine.
